Republican Representative Concedes Campaign Due To Queer Allegations

Ed Shrock (R - VA) has decided to halt his campaign for a third term this fall amid allegations that he is a homosexual. The story at CNN is short and to the point:

Schrock had at least one meeting with the National Republican Congressional Committee to discuss the allegations. Schrock initially suggested to the NRCC that he "was going to fight it hard" before he had a change of heart, the aide said.

"He didn't want to drag his family through this thing," the aide said.

There's not a whole lot of details. The website who called him out, BlogActive, had referenced Schrock previously:

Congressman Ed Schrock has made a habit of rendezvousing with gay men via the MegaMates/ MegaPhone Line, an interactive telephone service on which men place ads and respond to those ads to meet each other.

Amazingly, they even have one of the MegaPhone Line calls purporting to be Schrock available for listening. While this might seem to be a bit of a stretch, if Schrock is taking it so hard, we must assume that the allegations have at least some truth to them. It is, however, surprisng to see a reportedly gay man who votes against gay rights in every way possible.
